Ligonier Restoration and Remodeling

Ligonier has some of the most beautiful historic homes in Westmoreland County — the Diamond, the side streets off Main, and the surrounding country estates around Rolling Rock and Laughlintown. There's also a healthy share of second homes, weekend retreats, and farmhouses where the owners aren't living full-time. We do a lot of restoration work, full-wrap porches, slate and standing-seam roof repairs, and outdoor-living projects out here.

Working in Ligonier is different from working in a newer subdivision. The houses have layers — original 1800s framing, a 1920s addition, a 1970s kitchen, a 2000s bath — and you have to respect what's there before you start swinging hammers. We slow down, take measurements that match the originals, and source materials that look right next to 150-year-old millwork.

About a half-hour from our Latrobe shop, Ligonier is close enough that we get out there quickly for estimates, weekly site checks, and for the maintenance visits our membership clients depend on while they're at their primary residence.

What We Do in Ligonier

Familiar Neighborhoods

We work throughout Ligonier Borough, Ligonier Township, Laughlintown, Rector, Stahlstown, Darlington, and out toward the Forbes State Forest properties.

Project mix here skews toward porches, additions sympathetic to historic facades, kitchen renovations that keep original cabinetry where possible, and exterior work — slate repair, painted clapboard, copper details — that newer construction rarely needs.

Local Knowledge Helps

  • Historic homes need a careful eye. Plaster walls, original windows, wide-plank floors, and hand-cut trim profiles all reward a craftsman approach over a tear-it-out approach. We can match historic moldings and casings when replacement is the only option.
  • Ligonier Borough has design review considerations in and around the Diamond — exterior changes can require extra documentation. We handle that paperwork and the conversations that come with it.
  • Heavy snow loads and wind exposure on properties up toward the ridge mean porches, roofs, and decks need to be engineered for real weather, not catalog conditions. We spec accordingly.
  • Second-home owners often hire us for off-season maintenance, freeze-protection checks, storm response, and seasonal opening/closing of porches and outdoor kitchens — exactly what our maintenance membership is built around.
  • Rural water (well + septic) is common outside the borough. Any kitchen or bath remodel needs to factor in pressure, capacity, and the existing system before fixtures get specified.

What Ligonier Neighbors Say

"Our composite deck turned out exactly like the drawing. They handled the permit, kept the yard clean, and finished a day ahead of schedule. Highly recommend."

Common Questions about Ligonier

01Do you work on historic homes in the Ligonier Diamond area?+

Yes, regularly. We're careful with original millwork, plaster, and exterior detail, and we can match historic profiles when replacement is needed. We're also comfortable navigating borough design considerations for visible exterior changes.

02Can you check on my second home while I'm away?+

Yes — that's exactly what our maintenance membership is built for. Scheduled walk-throughs, freeze checks in winter, storm response, and small repairs handled while you're at your primary home. You get photo updates after every visit.

03Do you build or rebuild full wraparound porches?+

Often. We rebuild rotted decking and skirting, replace turned columns and railings with matching profiles, repair tongue-and-groove ceilings, and re-flash where the porch ties into the main roof. Most porches we touch here are restoration, not replacement.

04Can you handle slate or metal roof repairs?+

Yes — we coordinate slate and standing-seam repairs through specialist crews we've worked with for years. We manage the project, the access, and the integration with gutters, flashings, and chimney work.

05How far out do you go from Ligonier Borough?+

All of Ligonier Township and the surrounding communities — Laughlintown, Rector, Stahlstown, Darlington, and the country properties up toward Rolling Rock and the state forest. No travel surcharge anywhere inside Westmoreland County.

06Do you do kitchens in older Ligonier homes without gutting the character?+

Yes. We've done plenty of kitchens that keep original cabinetry, hardware, or built-ins and modernize what matters — appliances, lighting, electrical capacity, layout flow, and counters — so the room works today without losing what makes it special.
